Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant, which protects against harmful excess free radicals. It protects vitamins A and C and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) from oxidation (going rancid). It enhances the antioxidant effect of selenium and supports the body’s internal antioxidant enzyme called ‘superoxide dismutase’ (SOD). Vitamin E is important for a healthy heart and nervous system, for healthy cell walls, eyes, reproduction, blood circulation and immune system function. It’s also important for making DNA and for balanced cholesterol levels. It helps inhibit blood clot formation. D-alpha-tocopherol is natural and highly bioavailable. DL-alpha-tocopherol is synthetic. Applied to skin in creams, gels and lotions, vitamin E gives antioxidant protection.
